Quick responseAgatha - I waffle on this. I see a beautiful woman in the 1920s, but I also see an overweight woman (Martha Grimes' mysteries featuring Melrose Plant & Richard Jury) who is incredibly annoying. The "ag" part bothers me. I far prefer it to Agnes, though.Gisela / Gisella - my husband has a cousin named Giselle. I remember the reaction to her name, people thought it was "strange." I think it's pretty> Gisela is a bit too fancy to me, I like Giselle better.Maren - It's cute, but it's too generic in the sea of M names. (I have discovered just how popular M names are for girls - my daughter is one of four in her class)
Meike - Cute, sweet
Veronika - I love this spelling. It has a strong, regal feeling to it. Hudson - 20 years ago this would have been a stand-out name. Now? It's just surname trendy.

I do have a fondness for Maren and Veronika although that spelling looks a bit harsh to me. The rest don't appeal to me at all.

I really like Agatha. I would feel bad for a real girl given this name, since it still seems to have such witchy, ugly associations with the general population but it really is nice. Gisela and Gisella both seem really slimy and unpleasant to me. Not a fan.Maren is nice.. not a name I ever think about but when I see it mentioned I I always think about how pleasant it is. Could stand to be used more.Meike is cute.Love love love Veronika. I go back and forth on preferring this vs the Veronica spelling but the k does seem more versatile. Really beautiful name, big personality, interesting history, fun to say. All around winner.Hate Hudson. Trendy nothingness blended in with all the other trendy nothingness.

I love the witchy feeling Agatha has! And I definitely agree with all you said about Veronika!

Oh I do too! I just think that could make it a bit of a burden to bear in real life.

Agatha: Used to dislike and thought of it as a harridan's name a few years back. I now see the beauty of it, though it is not a name I can ever see myself using. Agnes of the other hand...horrible. Agnes is one of those "blatantly bad" names.Gisella (prefer this spelling) I really don't care for, just never have. I think of it as "One of those that tries to sound pretty but instead fails and sounds more awkward and clumsy"
The upside that it as "Ella, Ellie" to fall back on (:
The "Gis" part makes the name look pretty much revolting.
Maren: Neutral towards, not much to say about it. Meike: My-e-kuh? I'm clueless on the pronunciation, sorry.Veronika: LOVE! I prefer the spelling of Veronica though. It's one of those names that sounds very beautiful and attractive to me. A name I wouldn't mind using for a child :DHudson: Used to be a fan but now I just feel very "meh" about it. Neutral towards.
Henry Hudson-The Hudson river, Hudson valley all spring to mind

Agnes is endearing IMO. Very popular in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway right now. Have to say I don’t like Ella or Ellie at all so thanks for pointing that out!

Oh, OKMIE-kə or MAY-kəI like the Mie-kə but it sounds just like the boys name Mika\Micah and I really don't care for the other pronunciation.

Micah and Mika are not the same name and are not pronounced the same way. Mika is also a feminine Japanese name.

From information I gathered years ago, Mika has two pronunciations and can be said just like Micah. Oh well.

Well where is your “information” from? Sounds like someone just assuming the pronunciation. It’s not related to Mika and both origins of Mika have the same MEE-ka pronunciation.

Agatha - very pretty and underused nowadays, but classic. Agatha would be very nice to hear on a little girl. I also like Agathe.
Gisela / Gisella - I don't like it. I much prefer Gisele because it looks like you combined Ella and Gisele.
Maren - pretty. But only spelled this way and not Marin.
Meike - I kind of like the sound.
Veronika - this spelling is sort of pretty, and it looks better to be then Veronica to me.Hudson - reminds me of boots or Hudson bay. Not a fan.

Agathe is nice! Thanks!

I like Agatha; I think the ag- sound throws people off but it really isn't bad IMO
Gisela would be nice pronounced in Spanish- hee-SEH-lah
I came across a little girl named Marin a few days ago; her dad pronounced it like Erin with an M. My initial thought is to pronounce Maren as MAH-ren instead of MAIR-in, how are you pronouncing it? (I do like it BTW!)
Meike sounds like Micah, which I don't like either.
I much prefer Veronica to Veronika, but the sound is nice.
Hudson is ok but super trendy and just another -son name... the sound isn't bad though.

I can understand how Marin pronounced as Erin with an M would happen in an American accent, but it wouldn’t happen here! I pronounce Maren as MAH-ren, I prefer Meike the Dutch way, and Gisela as Gisella or the listed pronunciation! Thanks!
