Today when I was buying a latte, the barista wore a name tag that said: EUGENIA.
This is a very uncommon name in Sweden - I don't think I've even heard of a Eugenia earlier, let alone met one, so I just had to tell her she had such a beautiful name! She smiled and thanked me.
I can't say I like the English pr. of Eugenia, but in Swedish it sounds more like the French pr., something like e-u-SHAY-nee-uh.
WDYT of Eugenia? And what nicknames can you think of? I know that Jenny traditionally was used as a nn for Eugenia in Sweden, but I don't think it fits. Genie isn't very good, either...

I really like Eugenia, especially with the Swedish pronunciation you described. I like Jenny as a nickname for it -- it's short, sweet, and simple.

It's interesting but I don't really care for it. I also dislike Eugenie, Eugen and Eugene. How about Eudora or Eunice? I like those a lot better. I can't think of any good nicknames either. Eugie maybe or Genia but they don't really work.

Eugene is one of my most despised male names so as a result, I've never warmed up to Eugenia or Eugenie although I'll admit, Genie is kind of cute.

Pronounced with the Swedish pronunciation is a huge improvement, however.

I kind of really like that pronunciation.
I’ve always been partial to the you-zhen-ee pronunciation over the harsher G sounds.

My favourite nickname is Zhenya.

I think it's cool to see but I'm not sure if I really like it.
The only association I can think of is Eugenia Cooney (a youtuber that was in a big controversy a while ago).

I know a lovely woman named Eugenia! It's definitely not a name most people come across. Personally, I would never use it but it does have an pretty, unique ring to it and I don't think there are any viable nicknames to use for Eugenia, maybe Gia?

I like it, but probably only because my wonderful great-uncle, my mom's godfather, was named Eugene. I've thought about using it after him a time or two.

OT: I was a trainee at the Museum of Medical History at the Karolinska Hospital area in Solna in 2003, in what used to be Eugeniahemmet (the Eugenia home), a home for children with disabilities. It's situated right beside (almost OVER) Eugeniatunneln. It (Eugeniahemmet) was named after princess Eugénie, who was said to haunt the museum. I never saw her, but I really wasn't frightened of her anyway. Apparently she was a friendly ghost.
