My great-grandparents were named Joseph and Josephine. I'm not sure if it would be awkward per say - maybe if they'd grown up being referred to with the same nicknames (both being called Jo or Joey) by relatives/friends. It could get a little confusing during holiday dinners when someone calls out to speak to Jo and both he and his wife look over, but other than that you'd probably be fine.
That said, I have met a couple who were named Jesse/Jessie and that's probably a bit more awkward but it didn't seem to bother them.
