My great-grandparents were named Joseph and Josephine. I'm not sure if it would be awkward per say - maybe if they'd grown up being referred to with the same nicknames (both being called Jo or Joey) by relatives/friends. It could get a little confusing during holiday dinners when someone calls out to speak to Jo and both he and his wife look over, but other than that you'd probably be fine.That said, I have met a couple who were named Jesse/Jessie and that's probably a bit more awkward but it didn't seem to bother them.
