Re: "fresh" vs. familiar
My top 10 for a baby girl or boy right now:Antonia - Nobody in real life, the only celebrity I know of is Nicole Kidman's sister Antonia Kidman.
Leona - 1 lady, 40's. She's warm, kind and has a sense of humour. Her personality has really made me grow to love her name.
Cora - Nobody in real life. I am reminded of the Downtown Abbey character Cora Crawley, I've watched the anime The Legend of Korra and Kora Organics is one of my favourite beauty companies.
Violet - Nobody in real life, although this is a name on my family tree. It was one of the names of my grandmother's sisters whom I never met.
Genevieve - 1 lady, twenties, and I think possibly another French girl when I was schooled in France. She was an attractive girl studying an art's degree who had a sense of humour.
Alec - I've only ever seen this name on a teenager working at a restaurant. Then there's Alec Baldwin.
Jasper - 1 man, twenties. He and I were studying Film degrees, and he was this artsy cinematographer who wore suspenders and one of those golfer caps. I'd only ever heard this name from 101 Dalmatians and suddenly it seemed really cool.
Jude - I've never met a man with this name, only a Judith who sometimes goes by Jude. I mainly think of The Beatles song "Hey Jude", which I love.
Theo (Theodore) - I met an Englishman with the name Theo in his twenties. He was warm-hearted and easy going. I also know of a baby called Theodore, who goes by Teddy. I had a teddy bear when I was a child named Theodora as well, so Theo is somewhat nostalgic for me.
Maxwell - Maxwell Smart, from Get Smart. My friend's husband has the name Max, and is the only person I've ever met with this name in real life. Max seems suave to me. My names seem to be around even for real people vs nobody in real life.Usually, after I meet a person in real life who has a name that I'm thinking of it makes me like it even more! Probably because it allows me to see how well/not so well it works on a real person. As to whether or not I like a name more or less after meeting someone with it, I think this depends upon how many people I know of with said name. If there's 3 or fewer people that I know, I usually end up really liking and/or loving the name, but to be honest, I could easily become turned off any of the above names if I heard them on other people constantly (the biggest example I can think of as a child of the 90's is the name Jessica - I'm so tired of it! haha). The names I remember the most from my real life (and want to use on future children) are those that a) stand out against all the others around me, b) are on a person who has a distinct or kind personality and c) I know of 3 or less people with that name.
