Re: Annabelle with siblings
I love Annabel. It used to be one of my favorites but it fell a bit out of favor, simply because I liked other names more. I also think the general belle/bella trend made me a bit tired of the name. I would be slightly worried that it would get shortened to Bella, Belle (this is not bad but it feels bland among all those Bellas) or even Anna or Annie which I both do not really like too much. Then there are all those Isabellas, Isabelles, Bellas and actually quite a few Annabelles too as it was in the top 100.I think that in a few years all of those bella/bella names will fall out of favor and even though Annabelle/Annabel were never that common they will feel dated and tired as well. However, I do not really care too much because I love Annabel. It was one of my favorites since childhood. I just love it, it is sweet and at the same time strong with a lot of history and a beautiful sound. I imagine a brown haired little girl who is sweet and loving, likes to take care of people and play outside. I also love its meaning.Annabelle is a different story. I do not pronounce Annabel and Annabelle the same. With Annabel I put the emphasis on the first syllable and with Annabelle on the last. Annabelle sounds and looks more frilly to me. Whereas Annabel is a cute girl who plays outside Annabelle is a cupcake with too much frosting or a doll in very frilly pink lace dresses. Also there is the horror movie Annabelle and this spelling makes me think more of the creepy doll with that name.Overall the Annabelle horror movies are pretty well known and I think a huge reason why this name is dropping so quickly. For all those reasons I would encourage you to go with Annabel instead. I think among the name of your other children Annabel feels almost exotic. I normally think it is a very down to earth choice but next to Margaret, Benjamin and Alexander, all time classics, it does feel exotic, Annabelle even more so. However, I think it is still fine as a sibset. I just would not expect it, I would guess a next daughter to receive a name like Victoria, Mary or Catherine. But you could surprise people which is nice, so no problem there ;)I honestly do not really like Anne or Nan, they seem plain. I also think you could just name her Anne if you liked it, it is a full name after all. But if you like Annabelle nn Anne or Nan then you should go for it!To go with your other children s names: Victoria, Mary, CatherineTo go with Annabelle and the names of your children, something that is less all time classic than the ones mentioned above but still with a long history: Beatrice, Vivienne, Emmeline.
