It is terrible. Aside from sounding like a body part, it's a Central Casting hillbilly name; that's why the Slack-Jawed Yokel on the Simpsons is named Cletus.
Believe it or not, a few years ago a man here in Delaware was on the run after killing his stepfather in a fight. He was armed and dangerous and people in the area actually got robocalls from the police department warning about him. His name was Cletus. He was a black guy, which was even odder than the name itself; it's stereotypically a "white-trash, redneck" name.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes!
