It may be an Anglicized form of Marguerite (though that's a bit redundant, since Margaret exists), but all I keep thinking is that it's a typo for Margarita. Sorry, I don't like it at all.

That's how I pronounce Marguerite anyways, unless I've been doing it wrong all these years? I first heard it when my 9th grade class was reading The Five People You Meet In Heaven in class, partly listened to on audiobook, and even the official audio book pronounced it that way. (It was the protagonist's wife's name too so it wasn't just 1 or 2 times) unless I need to chalk this one up to "Americans are dumb" once again?..

I like that name, but hate that spellingMn Arabella, Felicity

It looks dyslexic. Where I live anyway, Marguerite is regularly pronounced mar-ga-REET anyway, so there's no reason to dumb it down. And I prefer Margaret anyway!

I love Marguerite, it's my favorite form of Margaret too. But the Margarite spelling seems dumbed down, and also like a brand name, like some really nasty fake butter.

All I see is a brand of margarine. That doesn't bother me with Margery... I guess it's the -ite and the off-ness of not quite being Marguerite.
