Iylis
I'm trying to find info on the origins of the name Iylis. It was my grandma's middle name. Her parents came to the US from Ireland, so I think it's Irish, but I'm not positive.

I would guess that this is just your great-grandparents' version of the name which is Lileas, Lilias, or Lillias in Scotland.

That's a capital "I", not a lower-case "l" so I'm not sure your explanation makes sense. If it was Lylis, it might. My dad had always thought the name was Iris, but she never used it after she got married, so he wasn't sure. I found a legal document which revealed the actual name, so I'm pretty sure I'm spelling it right.

Sorry, sometimes people use lower case so I did misread that. In that case perhaps it is your family's spelling for Eilís or Eilish, an Irish Gaelic form of Elizabeth. :)
