Re: meaning of "Boaz"
in reply to a message by Toni
That's irrelevant to the meaning. Apparently Boaz is only used as a name, and has no related words in Hebrew, so has no verifiable meaning. There is a possibly related word in Arabic that refers to swiftness in relation to horses, but that seems to be disputed. Several other suggestions have been made, but there is no consensus. It's probable that like Moses and Miriam it is ultimately not a Hebrew or even Semitic name at all, and it is thus futile to look for a Hebrew meaning (this is not unusual, in any culture at any time, just as today, it is not uncommon for people to freely use names from other languages).
