Advanced search: sound and syllables
Hi. I've been using this site for a few years but I'm new to the message boards, so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. :)I'm having trouble searching for names that contain short vowel sounds only; results include the long vowel sounds also. For example, when searching for names that sound similar to Nancy (*a*ee*), results include names with the "ah", "aw" and "ay" sounds like Dolly, Tawny and Bailey. The same thing happens with short e sounds; names like Eileen, Ivy and Kylie are included.I'm guessing that I'm doing something wrong but I've been trying different things and I just can't figure it out. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Try this search : https://www.behindthename.com/names/usage/english/sound/*a(kk)-eeThe (kk) substitution is undocumented, but it will match any consonant except h, w and y.
Cool! It worked well. I had tried the single K with no success; it's interesting that two Ks do work. Thank you!
