Meaning & History

Latinized form of Greek Ἀνδρόγεως (Androgeos), which is derived from Greek ανδρος (andros) meaning "of a man" combined with Greek γεως or γεος (geos), the genitive of Greek γῆ (gē) meaning "earth, land". In Greek mythology, Androgeus was the son of the Cretan king Minos and his wife Pasiphae.
