Meaning & History

Derived from Greek ἀνθέω (antheō) meaning "to blossom, to bloom", which is related to Greek ανθος (anthos) meaning "flower, blossom". In order words, this name is virtually the masculine form of Antheia (see Anthea). Antheus is the name of at least three characters in Greek mythology, one of them being a son of Agelaus.
