Meaning & History

Derived from the Latin adjective castrensis meaning "of the camp, in the camp", which is ultimately derived from the Latin noun castra meaning "(military) camp, encampment".

This was the name of a 5th-century Catholic bishop and saint from North Africa, who was exiled to Campania in southern Italy by the Vandals.
