Etymology uncertain; it may be a form of Parvaneh, parvanek which means "little butterfly" and refers to the Persian lynx or caracal, or may be derived from the Middle Persian plwʾnk' (parwānag) meaning "guide, leader". According to the Shahnameh, Faranak was the mother of Fereydoun.
