Meaning & History

Meaning "young female aardvark", ultimately derived from Jul'hoan particles gǃkún meaning "aardvark", ǁʼhòm mà meaning "young woman" and the feminine suffix .

According to Wikipedia, she can be found in Juǀʼhoan mythology described as a 'beautiful aardvark girl', who sometimes appears in the stories of other San peoples as a python girl or elephant girl.

The minor planet (229762) Gǃkúnǁʼhòmdímà was named after her too.
