The meaning and origin of this name is unfortunately uncertain. Although, I have seen two sources claim it was ultimately derived from an Arabic word that meant "brave, courageous", but I'm not sure how much stock I should put in that. Either way, the use of Gobroni as a given name first began in honour of the Georgian saint and martyr Gobroni, whose first name was actually Mikel (or Mikael); Gobroni was his nickname. He was beheaded by muslim Arabs in 914 AD. Finally, the name Gobroni is quite rare in Georgia nowadays - the more modern form Gobron is more common in comparison, but even Gobron is pretty rare in Georgia.
