How ridiculous in this day and age!

A colleague in my office named her baby daughter “Goldie” and I was shocked. Goldie is a nick name... it’s like naming your baby Fluffy or Mittens.

People try to hard to be different. Like naming their baby is some kind of contest. When I see a baby name announcement, names like Goldie make me cringe. Classic names are like a breath of fresh air.

It sounds like a stage name!

Nicknamey, borderline babyish. For that golden glow, I'll take Aurelia or Oriana or Orla any day over Goldie.

I knew a dog named Goldie. Which is exactly what it’s best for, a dog. Better than Blondie though.

This is my favourite name.
I know there are really hateful comments, but here's why I like it.
- It's youthful, but not immature
- GOLD!
- If you're thinking Goldilocks and the three bears... have you read The Land of Stories? My favourite character is Goldilocks grown up, and she is brave, kind and beautiful.

My other favourite names are Leo, Theo and Luke (for boys) and Mila, Clara and Willow (girls).

I love Goldie for a name, I think it's beautiful. It's youthful (yet not immature), strong, feminine and gorgeous. It's very sweet and rolls off the tongue like honey. I love it both as a nickname and a given name, but especially as a given name.

Horrible name in my opinion! It sounds like a goldfish or dog! This does not have to do with the name but people who have this name (Based on what I've noticed) ARE SUPER SUPER SUPER annoying. I guess it's kind of cute but I think it's unprofessional.

It’s nice as a middle name. I do not think it’s childish. It is one of those names that I like but I will never use.

I love this name, maybe it's because I've not yet met someone with it. It seems exotic and strong, and all I can think of is the ember aura from the sun.

So basically, the nickname for a black haired person would be “Blackie” HELLL NAHH so racist.
Ridiculous for a nickname but I think it’s nice for a girl.

My daughter's name. She has dark skin, so much personality and spirit... I'll never regret calling her Goldie.

I don't understand all the hate, this name is beautiful, it has a delicacy, a warmth... I love this name, it's uncommon, it's easy to pronounce.

If you are considering this name for your child, listen to me.
There are so many names that involve gold, like, for example, Aurelie or Aurelia (You gotta love those) and if you’re considering the white or blond aspect try a name meaning “white, fair, blessed” like Bianca or something. Also, there’s Stephanie, which means gold crown.

Goldie isn’t the end of the world, but it’s quite... unattractive. It also has an unpleasant sound, and you will be asked, “Is that your real name?” Doesn’t work on a dog either. Also, it’s pretentious and immature. I hope you consider a different name for your child.

This name is not very good. It's more popular on golden dogs than humans. Sorry to all Goldies, but it's a dog classic.

All I think is Goldie from Goldie and Bear that TV show. But anyways, there are some really harsh comments about this. I actually find this cute. Yes I think it’s better off as a nickname but if a parent wants to name their child this, who are you to judge?

I knew a Goldie who would be about 68 years old now. Other posters have said this could not be a serious name on an adult but she pulled it off very well. She was one of the nicest people I have ever known.

I hate it! It shouldn't be used at all, it's bad as a name for pets, as well as a name for people. It has a horrible sound and it's stupid and annoying. It isn't cute at all, it's just unbearable.

The only person I've met named Goldie is an 84 year old woman... I wouldn't use this as my kid's name. It doesn't sound mature at all.

Honestly, I can't take this name seriously on a person since this is something everyone names their goldfish. Goldie Hawn manages to pull it off, but still, it doesn't sound particularly intelligent.

It sounds more like a stage name for a blond pop singer than a real, legal name. Skip it.

If you want it to come from a name you could use Golda or Marigold but if she's blonde this can be her nickname no matter what her real name is.

This sounds like a good name for a goldfish, considering it's like the most common name for them, but not a human being. It also brings to mind Goldie Hawn, and she's rather creepy.

Sorry, but it's a silly name. It sounds really tacky and corny, and there's no way any self-respecting woman would want to go by Goldie. This was the name of a d'n'b artist, and it's difficult to figure out why he chose this name for himself. It sounds so child-like and dumb.

This was the name of one of my mother's cats in the old days. It was short for Goldilocks. Dislike it as a human name though, horrible.
