Meaning & History
Madicken (called Maggie in the English translation) is a fictional character created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren for her children's novel of the same name. The titular character was named after Astrid's childhood friend Ann-Marie, whose nickname was Madicken. However, in the books, Madicken was short for Margareta.
