Orna Ní Choileáin is an Irish writer. She writes Irish language fiction books for both adults and children, as well as poetry and drama. She has won prizes for her creative prose, poetry, drama and theatre, and short-story writing at Oireachtas na Gaeilge and other Gaelic festivals.
You'd have to be a real poet at heart to appreciate this name, as "little pale green one" conjures images in my mind of seasick children on the Liverpool to Dublin ferry!
I think this name is so wonderful. I can see a cute little girl, an independent teenager, and an elegant woman with this name. It's a name you can grow up with, very nice.
My friend's name is Orna, but the "O" has an accent over it, so it is spelled Ôrna. I tell her that it's ironic that she's Irish, and her name means "small, pale, green one." (which pretty much describes a leprechaun)
