Meaning & History
Spanish form of Quechua Pachakutiq, from a combination of noun pacha meaning "time; world" and verb kutiy meaning "to return, revert; to change, shift, alter" with the agentive suffix -q, used to refer to Pachakutiq Inka Yupanki (c. 1418-1471/2) who reigned as the ninth Sapa Inca of the Inca Empire.This name is also occasionally used in modern times, mostly restricted to Peru.
