I absolutely adore the name Peggy it is kinda like the names Maggie, Sally,and Molly where when you just hear the name it sounds like a child but when you think about it could work for someone of any age. Also Peggy Schulyer is so sweet and one of my fav characters in Hamilton. Then don’t even get me started about Peggy Carter who is total boss and so smart and dedicated and determined. I know by reading the previous comments that the name Peggy clearly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but if you are thinking of naming your child Peggy I deeply encourage you to do so because they will have a very beautiful,strong and classy name!

My partner really likes the name Margaux Victoria. I do really like it, it's just a little grown up for a baby and toddler in my opinion. Peggy is really growing on me for a nickname and I think it sounds very London if that makes sense.

My mother, who was born in the 50's, is a Peggy. Her mother went for trendy names when she named her children. I don't know if she's ever expressed loving her name, and I think at times in her life she wished she had been named Margaret instead, but I love the name because I associate it with my mother, who is the emotionally strongest person I know. It's very different, and that's why I like it.

Okay, long story short. Margaret to Peggy. "Margaret> Meg> Meggy> Peggy". Yes my actual name is Peggy Sue D****! And yes, everyone thinks they are original when they break out in a chorus of the Buddy Holly song. I was sometimes called Piggy. I wasn't heavy although I am 5'10". Kids will change anyone's name into something else if it gets a laugh or embarrassed someone & they only had to change the E to an I. I never took it personally, besides you have to get a little toughened up in the world. I like my name! It's been the start of many interesting conversations.

The comment that it is unknown as to why Meggy; a reason that the original version of Peggy changed from an M to a P sound can be found in the fact that names can often move from a voiced initial consonant to an unvoiced one. Think of how the M sound begins; it's voiced, meaning that the vocal chords vibrate while the lips are forming the sound. P is exactly the same lip movement while beginning the sound; but it's unvoiced; the vocal chords don't get used to make the P sound. It's easier to say Peggy than Meggy so as language sometimes gets sloppy with time and certain sounds are pronounced less precisely so those kinds of changes slip in.

The name on my birth certificate is Peggy Simpson. I grew up during the Simpson's era and Married with Children, so people would tease me, calling me Peggy Bundy or Marge Simpson. When my parents put me in a catholic school the teacher immediately referred to me as Margaret and there were 2 or 3 other Margarets already. When she refused to call me by my name I began to refuse to answer her. At 6 I already hated being called someone else's name. They did begin to call me by Peggy, but from grades 1-8 there are NO records of me ever going to grade school because they refused to change the records from Margaret.
