We named our son Rordan as a variant of this name, dropped the i so people would pronounce it ROAR-dan. We call him Rory for short. We figured contracting the name is par for the course since it was originally Rioghbhardan.
Wow, surprised no one has mentioned, but there is an author named Rick Riordan who is famous for creating the Percy Jackson series.

It is most commonly pronounced Reardon but we pronounce it Rye-er-din. The plus is never having to write my son's last name on anything. :) He's 15 now and has always loved his name.
Not sure whether to pronounce it 'REE-or-dan' or 'RI-or-dan.'
I like Riordan. It has a strong sound and a fantastic meaning. It's in my top ten.
Author Rick Riordan.
Pronounced Reer-din and it is a surname.
I sincerely hope this name isn't pronounced "REER-dan". I don't know why, but I find it slightly unattractive said this way; I much prefer "ROAR-dan".
I agree. I keep looking for a name pronounced "ROAR-dan" instead of "REER-dan" but no such luck. I usually loathe made up names, but I'm driven to the point of desperation here. Rordan look okay?
I like this name a lot!
It's pronounced "REER-den."
