Meaning & History

From the Japanese kanji 晋 (shin) meaning "to proceed" or 伸 (shin) meaning "lengthen" combined with 三 () meaning "three". It can also derive from 新 (shin) meaning "new; change" combined with 蔵 () meaning "possession; ownership".

A famous bearer is Shinzō Abe (1954-), Prime Minister of Japan since 2012 and in 2006-07.
