Meaning & History

This name can be used as 末 (batsu, matsu, sue) meaning "close, end, posterity, powder, tip" or 季 (ki, sue) meaning "seasons."
It can also be used to combine 須 (shu, su, subekara.ku, subeshi, hige, matsu, mochi.iru, moto.meru) meaning "by all means, necessarily, ought," 主 (shu, shuu, su, aruji, omo, nushi) meaning "chief, lord, main thing, master, principal" or 寿 (shuu, ju, su, kotobuki, kotobu.ku, kotoho.gu) meaning "congratulations, longevity, one's natural life" with 恵 (e, kei, megu.mi, megu.mu) meaning "blessing, favour, grace, kindness" or 江 (kou, e) meaning "bay, creek, inlet."
One other form of Sue is す江, which is a combination of the phonetic character す (su) and 江.

Sue was slightly popular to popular in the Edo Period (1603-1868), particularly in the latter part, and in the first 30 or so years of the Meiji Period (1868-1912) but by the 1900s, it dropped in popularity.
Sue is also used as a surname and place name.
