Meaning & History

Means "man from Vanaheimr" in Old Norse. Vanaheimr was the home of the Vanir, a group of gods. Njǫrðr, Freyr and Freyja were members of the Vanir.

Vanlandi was a legendary Swedish king, son of Sveigðir and father of Visbur. He appears in the epic works 'Heimskringla' and 'Ynglinga saga' written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. Vanlandi also appears in the 9th century poem 'Ynglingatal', possibly written by the Norwegian skald Þjóðólfr ór Hvini.
