Meaning & History

Latin form of 螝伪渭尾蠉蟽畏蟼 (Kambyses), the Greek form of the Old Persian name 饜帲饜幉饜帰饜帾饜帯饜幑 (Kabujiya), which is of uncertain meaning, possibly related to the geographical name Kamboja, a historical region in Central Asia [1]. Two Persian kings bore this name, including Cambyses II, the second ruler of the Achaemenid Empire, who conquered Egypt.
