Meaning & History

Possibly derived from the Quraysh tribe. The Quraysh were a powerful merchant tribe that controlled Mecca and its Ka'aba and that according to tradition descended from Ishmael. Muhammad was born into the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe.
