Meaning & History
Means "lunar nectar", from the name of an intoxicant used in ancient Vedic ritual, prepared from the juice of some plant, which is from Indo-European *#seu#- "juice", ultimately from the root *#seue#- "to take liquid" (cf. Sanskrit #sunoti# "presses out juice"). Soma is the Rigvedic moon god (sometimes identified with CHANDRA).
