From Japanese 太 (tai) meaning "big, thick", 泰 (tai) meaning "peaceful, calm" or 大 (tai) meaning "big, large" combined with 陽 (you) meaning "light, sun, male", 洋 (you) meaning "ocean" or 耀 (you) meaning "shine, sparkle, dazzle". Other kanji combinations are possible.

Taiyou (太陽, 太洋) as a word in Japanese (太陽) means "sun" and (太洋) means "ocean".
