Meaning & History

From the characters 烛 (zhú, meaning “shining, torch-like”) and 光 (guāng, meaning “light”). This is the name of a goddess mentioned in the Shanhaijing (山海经) or Classic of Mountains and Seas. Along with her sister, XIAOMING, she is a daughter of the Emperor Shun (CHONGHUA) by his wife Dengbi. The two of them live in a marsh next to the Yellow River, where their spirits illuminate the surrounding land in a hundred-league radius.
