I like the spelling ‘Sylvia’ a little better. But I do like that ‘Silvia’ is more versatile for being used in different-language-speaking countries. If I were to use it, I could probably be swayed to use either one by my partner, because I do like them both.
Silvia is a gorgeous name. It is a lovely classic that is both timeless and modern. It is soft and strong, and carries a regal essence with it. It also holds a beautiful, undeniable European charm. Overall, I think Silvia is a wonderful name.
Silvia: a cascade of emerald-colored leaves, each letter fluttering like dappling sunlight through the canopy. An arboreal sonnet, it carves pathways winding through the bosom of an unearthly forest. I am certain that a person named Silvia is truly one with the forest, a bearer of an untold kinship with the ferns and the mosses. Crofts of green stretching as far as the eye can see, straddling the sea and the sky. A forgotten glory, Silvia has been abandoned over the years, but I do hope it one day regains its spark.
Beautiful name with beautiful meaning. I prefer Sylvia to Silvia though. Still, Silvia looks very pretty, it reminds me of the word silver.
I agree with "justmy2cents"! I feel like I'm going to name my Perodua Viva "Silvia" because of its beautiful silver paint!
I think it's lovely.
Prefer it with a Y like "Sylvia" but still nice.

Song: “Who is Silvia? What is she”
BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
(from Two Gentlemen of Verona)Who is Silvia? What is she,
That all our swains commend her?
Holy, fair, and wise is she;
The heaven such grace did lend her,
That she might admirèd be.Is she kind as she is fair?
For beauty lives with kindness.
Love doth to her eyes repair,
To help him of his blindness;
And, being helped, inhabits there.Then to Silvia let us sing,
That Silvia is excelling;
She excels each mortal thing
Upon the dull earth dwelling;
To her let us garlands bring.
Love the nickname 'SILVER'. Such a shimmery youthful name. Simply beautiful!
William Shakespeare imported 'Silvia' to England. Silvia is the protagonist in the Shakespearean poem: Who is Silvia? What is she, That all our swains commend her? How are we not just swooning over this gem!

I don't love it, but it's cute.
Sounds cutesy, but it's not overly cute like Kaylee, Kinsley, Everly, etc.
Silvia Night (real name Agusta Eva Erlendsdottir) is an Icelandic singer and comedian who represented her country in 2006 Eurovision with "Congratulations". It did not qualify through to the final.
This name, Silvia, reminds me of evergreen forests on a clear spring morning when the air is fresh and songbirds start to sing. Its meaning is very attractive and simple to enunciate for most people who would come across it. The name does deserve a ready nod of use in a day and age when one rarely encounters such a person by that forename.

My name is Silvia and I love it. I'm kind of old fashioned myself, I'd much rather have lived in different times. And I'm also glad it's not so popular anymore. Everyone is called Nicole and Aya and names like that nowadays in my country.

I love the combo Silvia Juliet - both from Shakespeare.
I don't really like the sound of this name, but I did suggest to my friend to name her cat Silvia because the cat was grey and white so she looked silver. Something about the "ill" sound in this name puts me off about it.

I have never heard this, but it is beautiful! I really like it!
I think it's unfortunate that Silvia/Sylvia has been sort of relegated to "old-fashioned" status, since it has such a lovely sound. If people would have the guts to use it, it wouldn't have such an "old woman" image along with it. I also happen to prefer Silvia to Sylvia, since Silvia reminds me of silver.
Mexican actress Silvia Navarro also bears this name. She's famous for playing in Mexican soap operas like Perla or Cuenda Seas Mía.
Silvia sounds so sleek and slender to me. It's a beautiful, silvery name.
Slovak actress Silvia Šuvadová (born 4th April 1973, Ružomberok, Czechoslovakia).
I think Silvia is a wonderful name for anyone looking to use a classic name for their children. There's really no such thing as a name that is 'too old fashioned' in my opinion. Today, names seem very meaningless and pointless with everyone trying to make them as 'unique' as they possibly can, even going so far as to misspell them chosen name when they can just use a wonderful name that isn't grotesque.I love the spelling of Silvia VS. Sylvia. This name seems very youthful when spelled this way, I'd highly recommend this very fine name for anyone.
Thumbs Up the following comment!

Sylvia Plath (October 27, 1932 – February 11, 1963) was an American poet, novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Most famous as a poet, Plath is also known for The Bell Jar, her semi-autobiographical novel detailing her struggle with clinical depression, specifically bipolar disorder. Plath and Anne Sexton are credited with advancing the genre of confessional poetry that Robert Lowell and W.D. Snodgrass initiated. Since her suicide, Sylvia Plath has risen to iconic status. While married to Ted Hughes, her husband wrote a poem 'Wind', this poem was seen to have shown the storminess of their relationship and how distant they were with one another. Sylvia Plath's suicide was said to have been caused by the fact that Ted Hughes had separated from her in the prior year.
