I’ve met 2 baby Sullivan’s recently. 1 boy and 1 girl. Both were called Sully as a nick name. I’m not sure I like Sully as a name because of the meaning of the word sully. Obviously people are choosing the name because of the giant blue monster from Monsters Inc. Seems like a trendy name but also kind of dated in relation to the character and the movie being over 20 years old.
According to https://www.irelandbeforeyoudie.com/the-top-20-irish-surnames-in-america-ranked/, Sullivan is an Irish name meaning hawk-eyed or one-eyed-hawk.
I don't care for the full name Sullivan, but I love the name Sully! It is a very great sounding boy name. Also I have a godson named Sully.
This name feels very masculine and strong, I like it a lot.
Sullivan can be a female name. I know a little girl named this, and her nickname is Sully. (I feel sorry for her.)
I like the name Sullivan but it’s kind of trendy (being a popular last name) and it is a mouthful to say. Also I’ve noticed when I mentioned using the name for a boy other people have said they know girls named Sullivan. Apparently there have been 2 celebrities who named their daughters Sullivan...what!? It just doesn’t sound feminine at all to me. It’s a nice name but I’m not using it, at least for now. Will always love James P Sullivan.
I love this name but that's because it's my brother's name. It fits him well and he is small and darker than the rest of us. But I think it'd be nice on many people. It has a lot of good nicknames, Sully, Sul (I call him Sal), Ivan (we never call him this).
I like Sullivan, like Solomon and Jackson, a last name could work as a first name as well.
One of my cousins named their newborn son this. It's not my favorite name. I mainly think of it as a surname or the big blue guy from Monster's inc.
I do like the name Sullivan. I mainly enjoy it for the nickname Sully, which I think it really cute! I like the name Sullivan because it reminds me of something I would name a pet! And I love animals! I also love “pet names” on children.
I sorta like this name as a first name.
I think this a sexy, handsome name for a guy. ;)
I love this name for a boy. I hope it doesn't get too popular.
Always been sort of neutral towards it, as it's my surname. However, I think it's a bit heavy sounding, and not really all that fit to be a first name.
This name has a nice ring to it, like Donovan.
There should actually be two Ls in the original form of this name: Súilleabhán, Ó Súilleabháin. The second L comes from the D in _dubh_, for what it's worth: _súil_ 'eye' + _dubh_ 'black, dark' + _-án_ (a diminutive ending). [noted -ed]
A GIRL at my school has this name. I don't like it at all. Sounds like a last name.
Sullivan is the name of Tom Waits' second son.
This sucks as a first name. It sounds pretentious, yet not very high class.
