[Facts] Attention, Posters! In the New Year, help us help you...
Looking for the meaning of a name? Trying the following before/when you post on this site will increase your chances:1) Check Mike Campbell's Name List first. It's very extensive and comprehensive, and may provide all the info you need. A multitude of postings this year have shown the name being asked about in "underlined blue", which means there's already an entry explaining it on the List. That's the logical first place to go. If you don't get everything you want there, then go ahead and post for more info.2) "I've looked everywhere on the Internet for this name, and can't find anything". Maybe not; most search engines are bad and getting worse, as they try to become populist entertainment centers instead of research aids.I used to sneer at Yahoo as being insufficient and used AltaVista. Now AV is getting as bad, and I use Google.com almost exclusively. No frills, but a bunch of related sites for your search word(s). Example: Putting "Daividh" in Yahoo yields 3 hits; putting it in Google yields 11 PAGES. Do yourself a favor and try that site before posting if you want to self-research.3) Post as much background info on the name as you feel comfortable with; the more the better. Just saying "what's the meaning and origin of the name 'Magoogoo'?" starts us from Square One with no helpful info. Saying "I'm a male of Senegalese descent and I'd like to know the meaning of my name 'Magoogoo'" gives us all a big headstart.Don't be afraid you're giving away too much personal info. Just not posting your last name and e-mail address will keep 99% of us in the dark, and that's fine.4) We love to get off-topic here, but the fundamental purpose of this site is NAME MEANINGS. Except in small doses, please don't ask "which name do you like best for our baby?" We'll probably respond constructively the first time you do, but it can get nasty when the same person posts this kind of thing repeatedly. There are many sites that cater to popularity polls on baby names, and we'd be happy to direct you to one if that's what you're looking for.Anyway, following these suggestions will help you get a better answer to your question more quickly. And when in doubt, post a message anyway. Happy New Year!Daividh
