[Opinions] Sylvie or Susanna
We've chosen not to find out the sex of our second child, due in about six weeks. We're pretty set on Leo for a boy but are bringing two girls' names with us to the hospital and deciding after the baby is born (obviously, if we have a Leo, we won't have to agonize between the two girl names). :-) We have a five-year-old daughter named Simone. I just wondered what your preference was and why. We'll still wait until the baby is born, since we waver between the names, but the feedback we receive may certainly influence our final decision. So, which would you choose? Susanna or Sylvie? On Susanna: We will not encourage or use ourselves the nicknames of Sue or Susie. We'd likely use Zuzu as a pet name when she is very young, but for all other intents and purposes it would be Susanna. No nicknames. I wonder if this is somewhat unrealistic, and that's part of the reason I couldn't come to rest on this name with 100% certainty. On Sylive: I like this at least as well as, if not better, than Susanna. My husband really likes it and is willing to consider it, but he still seems to prefer Susanna. He's not sure. He says he could really love either name. Sylvia isn't an option; we prefer the French form. Thanks for your feedback!

I vote for Susanna. It's such a pretty name and I don't think it will be nicknamed if you don't want it to be. I know two Susannas and two Susanne / Suzannes and none of them go by Susie. Also, I love the spelling you've chosen. Susanna Josephine is nice but I think Susanna Magdalene works as well.

I like both names but I think Sylvie sounds much better with your daughter's name. In fact I think Simone and Sylvie is a wonderful sibset. So Sylvie get's my vote.

I vote for SylvieI love Sylvie. Susanna seems so old fashioned and I think of the song Oh Susanna won't you cry for me. Sylvie has an elegence to it that I think goes better with Simone.

I love Sylvie or Sylvia, either way. I don't care for Susannah much, it just seems hokey from my point of view. (that's just an opinion and I don't want to hurt your feelings.) But between the two, I love Sylvie.
Your choice of middle names, Josephine and Magdalene, are two of my favorite names. I love Josephine, prefer Magdalen without the "e" on the end, but I like both very much.
When your child is born, I imagine it will be easier to decide which name fits best.

Susanna. I've just always had a soft spot for this name. Sylvie is great too but it seems too incomplete.

Well, I prefer Sylvia with Sylvie as a nickname, and I prefer the spelling Susannah. So, I choose Susanna, if Sylvie is the formal name choice.

I prefer Sylvie. It seems to me to be 'in the same style' as Simone, equally French, stylish, and uncommon; while Susanna sounds a bit 'older,' plainer, and more conservative to me.Of course, I'm biased a bit, too, because I love the name Sylvie (and I like Simone too), and am not a big fan of Biblical names.I think Sylvie Magdalene is perfect.Leo is excellent too! - chazda

Sylvia, nn Sylvie is at the very top of my list if I ever have a girl. Dh likes the meaning and I love the sound and look of the name. Susanna is very pretty, too, but it just doesn't have the "je ne sais quoi" that Sylvie does, imo.

since your other daughter is Simone Sylvie would be a more logical name since it is also not as popular...I knew a girl named Susanna and she never used a shortened version of the name and she was in her teens...what would the middle name be? That could also influence the name that I would choose depending on the way they flowed together

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I appreciate all feedback. To answer the middle name question, the choices are Susanna JosephineSylvie Josephine OR Sylvie MagdaleneJosephine and Madgalene are both family names. We like the flow of Susanna Josephine over Susanna Magdalene but with Sylvie, either would work, and if we went with Sylvie, we'd probably decide the middle name at the last minute too. ;-)

I vote for Sylvie, it goes perfectly with Simone.

Sylvie and Simone are perfect with each other. Susanna is nice, and Zuzu is an adorable nn, but I agree that it is unrealistic to expect her not to be called Sue / Susie.I'd go with Sylvie, if I were you.Shannon
