[Opinions] Amadeus vs. Amadeo
Which of these two would work better for an American child? I really, really love Amadeus, but I think Amadeo might work better. Opinions? (And if its not your style, please tell me why.Siri

I like both, but prefer Amadeus because of the musical connection and because Amadeo seems to look a bit incomplete on paper.

Amadeo works better in my mind, simply because the film Amadeus saturated American mainstream culture too thoroughly. Amadeo sounds Italian, or at least Latin, but doesn't call nearly so much attention to itself as a foreign name in the way Amadeus suggests the film, the song "Rock Me Amadeus," and Mozart. (edited to add: I guess this impression dates me :-P)Using names that suggest (to me) a language or culture that I don't feel any connection to isn't often 'my style,' but I think Amadeo's appealing and 'normal' sounding on an American kid even if he's not of Italian descent; it just sounds middle class (not a negative). - chazda

Amadeo. Amadeus sounds like the name of something out of a Matrix sequel or like the name of some old fart; Amadeo is more modern, and in general I like it better.

I don't care for either name, but I'd say Amadeo.

I prefer Amadeus. I like Amadeo as well though. I have a tendancy to like S endings, which is probably why i like Amadeus better.

Amadeo is one of my favourite names. It's up there with Friedrich, Leopold, Horatio, and Aric for me. I think it works better than Amadeus simply because Amadeus still has way too many ties to Mozart.Mozart's great, of course, but Amadeo doesn't carry with it such a strong image. It's like Roman versus Romain or Romeo; Roman is going to be pretty neutral as far as other people's mental images with the names. Romain, on the other hand, will get asked if he's got a brother named Iceberg, and Romeo will be asked about his girlfriend, Juliet.Array

I like both names though I slightly prefer Amadeo. It's hard for me to guess which would work better. Amadeus is easily recognizeable while Amadeo may get mispronounced as something like am-uh-dee-oh. On the other hand, Amadeo may work better since it's less tightly connected with Mozart. I guess you just need to decide for yourself which, if either of these issues, is really an issue to you or not.
