Josephine is classier, and I happen to love the name. I do like Evangeline, but I can't help hearing evangelical, and then related images come to mind. I would also live in fear of her being called Vange as a nn. Having said that, I do like the sound of Evangeline.

Evangeline...for some reason I've never liked JosephineBut I adore just Josie. However I don't like Josephine at all. Go figure.Evangeline is gorgeous- I love the meaning, and the nn Evie.

I like both, but...Josephine has staying power. At the moment Evangeline is enjoying a burst in popularity (Evangeline Lilly perhaps?), which, if it continues, could make it sound slightly dated down the line. Josephine gets my vote. (Though I'd still use Evangeline as a mn.)

I like both but I think I prefer Josephine ( although Josefina is my favourite version of that name).

Love both, but Evangeline wins

JosephineJosephine is wonderful and elegant. It has the lovely nicknames of Josie, Posy, Effie, Joey, Jojo, and Fifi. Evangeline has a very grating sound to me.My favorite -ine name is Clementine.

Though I wouldn't use either one, I prefer the sound of Evangeline. It's too close to the word "evangelist" for my liking, but I still think that it's a pretty name.

Evangeline.But I like Josephine, too.

JosephineI don't really like it but I HATE Evangeline (what is WITH that name lately) so Josephine wins by a mile. How a name that makes you think of shove-it-down-your-throat religion appeals to anyone is beyond me.

I think both are pretty names, but Josephine gets my vote. It seems more classic and timeless, while for me, at times, Evangeline seems a bit over the top.
