[Facts] Re: Jess means rich -Solomons father-not listed
in reply to a message by Jess
Close but no divided baby. Jesse (not Jess, which is a nickname thereof) means "gift" or "one who is". And he was David's father and thereby Solomon's GRANDFATHER."Jess" is a word in its own right, tho. It means one of those leather straps that a falconer uses to hold the hunting bird's feet in place on his wrist.

According to the OED, the Jess falcon contraption is derived from the old french "ges" from which "jet" (airplane) and "jeter" (to throw, in modern french) are also derived.

PriaposLovsDoes it include "jette" (a jump in ballet) under "jeter" or under "ges"? CKTCPhyllis
