[Opinions] Siomha and Scathach?
I was looking at irish names the other day... I thought these too names were interesting, on the web Siomha is prounonced as Sheeva, and Scathach is pronounced Scaw-hach, is this right?
Also I have a question, Should I just spell it Sheeva because i know people might not prounonce it right? even I misprounonce it as See-oh-mah?
also do you like the pronounciation of Sheeva or See-oh-mah and why may I ask? I hope I made sense.

You could use Shiva or Shifa rather than corrupt Siomha. Shiva can be either masculine or feminine depending on the pronunciation.

I think it's interesting that Irish names are pronounced no where near to what they look like. I love the name Siomha pron. Sheeva.
I've never heard Shathach before, it doesn't appeal to me.
I would stick with the spelling Siomha and pronounce it Sheeva. I don't like the way See-oh-mah sounds, and Sheeva just looks weird and unnatractive as a name.

I personally had no problem recognizing Siomha as Sheeva, nor do I think it would be a major problem among BtN members, but most people would pronounce it see-OH-mah. We're pretty educated about Gaelic pronunciations here, but even I, with a name as simple as Aileen, have to correct people almost daily. The problem is that when you change in to Sheeva it looks like a Hindi name. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just seems totally different and unrelated to Siomha. I'm not wild about Scathach because it's like scat hatch or for some reason like Saskatchewan.
