[Facts] Ximena and Xanthe
I was wondering how the female Spanish name Ximena was pronounced? The comments on the site state is pronounced Hih-men-uh or Jih-men-uh. I was thinking it is pronounced Zhi-meen-uh. What is correct? And what about Xanthe? I was under the impression it was pronounced Zan-th, but comments say it is pronounced Zan-the, Zan-thee or Zan-thay.___________________________________________________________

I knew a Ximena who did pronounce her name with a sound that does not exist in English. It did sound to me like a soft German "ch".

Ximena is pronounced hee-MEH-nah in Spanish.Xanthe is (generally) pronounced ZAN-thee in English and it is KSAHN-thee in Greek.

Xanthe, like other Greek names, sounds the -e at the end: think of the difference between Chloe and Joe! So, in English it'll be ZAN-thee with the th as in thistle. No doubt it's not quite like that in Greek.
