[Opinions] Ariel
What do you think of Ariel for a girl ? Is it too associated with The Little Mermaid ? Do you prefer Arielle or Ariella ? Is it popular where you live ? How many do you know ? Oh and red hair runs in my family, would it weird to have a little girl with red hair named Ariel ?Do you prefer Ariel on a boy ? Do you pronounce it AIR-ree-el, AH-ree-el or ah-ree-EL ? I like Ariel pr. AH-ree-el and Arielle pr. ah-ree-EL, do you think the pronunciation could be a problem and people would always say AIR-ree-el ? I like all pronunciations, by the way.and wdyt of the names of Ariel's (mermaid) sisters ?Aquata
Andrina
Arista
Attina
Adella
Alana

Aquata is cute for a mermaid but not a person.

I prefer Ariel on a boy and Arielle on a girl, but Ariel is one of the few boys' names that I actually LIKE on a girl.

It's a lovely name, with a beautiful meaning. I like it for both genders and, before The Little Mermaid, there was Ariel in Shakespeare's Tempest.

I love Ariel for boys, so naturally I prefer Arielle and Ariella for girls. It isn't popular here and I don't know any. I pronounce Ariel as AH-ree-el and Arielle as ah-ree-EL. The air- pronunciations bug me, but I think a lot of people pronounce them that way.

I like Ariel on both, but LOVE Arielle on a girl. I'm not a big fan of the Air- prn. as it makes me think of a tv aerial. I prefer Ah- for both. I don't think that'd be a problem with that prn. especially with the Arielle prn.Ariel on a boy and Arielle on a girl. Ariella is a bit too frilly for my liking. I think it'd be fine to have a red-haired girl named Ariel(le). I only like Alana from the sisters names.

My heart melts for ArielOh god do I loooove it on a man. AIR-ee-el.Ariel is nice on a girl too, but I really can't take any other spelling. It really gets too sickly sweet. I don't know a single Ariel; yes I think people would always pronounce it AIR-ee-el (around here, anyway); and if your theoretical daughter did have red hair she might get a ton of comments, but really, being compared to a pretty mermaid is not the worst thing ever.I don't like any of Ariel-the-mermaid's sisters' names, although Adelle is nice. And just a friendly fyi, you don't need to put spaces between your words and your question marks or other punctuation. :)

What do you think of Ariel for a girl?
- I like it a lot, though I probably wouldn't use it. I actually prefer it for a mn I think. Is it too associated with The Little Mermaid?
- The name does make me think of that movie character, but that wouldn't put me off using it.Do you prefer Arielle or Ariella?
- I like both of these versions and I think either is lovely. Is it popular where you live?
- No not at all.How many do you know?
- I don't know anyone with this name at all.Oh and red hair runs in my family, would it weird to have a little girl with red hair named Ariel?
- No I don't think so. That would be cute actually!Do you prefer Ariel on a boy?
- No I don't. I actually don't like it for a boy.Do you pronounce it AIR-ree-el, AH-ree-el or ah-ree-EL?
- I pronounce Ariel as AIR-ree-el, Arielle as AH-ree-el and Ariella as AH-ree-el-ah. I think a lot of people would say AIR-ree-el for Ariel, as that's the way it's pronounced in the movie.Out of her sister's names I like Adella and Alana.

I like Ariel for a girl. I prefer the Arielle spelling and the ah ree EL pronunciation. I think it's one of those names that you have to tell people which way you want it pron. (like Andrea or Madeline) If you don't want to always have to give instructions about how to say it, you might want to steer clear. I have an odd name, but it doesn't bother me at all to correct people. I wouldn't use Ariel on a boy unless it was in the MN position. Of the sisters I like Arista and Alana the best.

I love the name Ariel and prefer it for a girl. Arielle and Ariella are nice sometimes but, generally, I find them to be a bit too frilly.
Ariel isn't popular where I live, although I've met a few Arielles and Ariellas (ages 16-19). I wouldn't worry too much about the red hair thing...she may get some comments but I don't think it will be a big deal. I pronounce it AIR-ree-el.
I don't really care for any of the other mermaid names except for Arista which is mainly just a GP.

I love Ariel! And, I love The Little Mermaid (It was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid). I like all three of those, but prefer Ariel or Arielle. I think the way you're prouncing it, I'd go with Arielle. I prefer Ariel or Arielle pronounced air-ee-ul. The only other name from Ariel's sisters I'd use is Alana.
