[Opinions] Re: Alicia
in reply to a message by Lily8
I once new a girl named Alycia (ah-LEE-see-uh). She said her parents wanted that pronunciation, so they made up their own spelling for it. However, she said it is always mispronounced as Alicia (ah-LEE-sha) when people first meet her.I would pronounce Alicia ah-LEE-sha or maybe ah-LISH-uh.I'm not such a fan of Alice, but I guess it's alright. The Alycia I knew is 22 now, but I don't remember her middle name.I think you are right that this name will always be misspelled or mispronounced. She will constantly be correcting people. However, it is a gorgeous pronunciation (ah-LEE-see-uh)I think it's neither too common, nor dated. Yes, with all the variations, it's probably up there, but because of the variation is doesn't feel too common and your pronunciation even has a unique feel.Alyssa has softer sounds, which tend to become more popular. I like Alyssa a lot, but I'm not sure if I like it better.Ali is a good nn, but since it's usually short for Alison, that could be another source of confusion.
