[Opinions] Melpomene
Long story short- I cam across this paper that gave a few pronunciations that I thought were different on the names given. Turns out most of the paper's pronunciations were correct, but what about this one, Melpomene?Melpomene- mel-poh-MEE-nee is how I thought of it, but according to the paper, it was mel-PAW-mih-nee. WHich pronunciation do you prefer? Which one (do you think) is correct?

I've only ever heard it said mel-PAH-meh-nee, which I suppose is the mel-PAW-mih-nee one.

I always have problems with English pronunciations of Greek names, since they mostly place the emphasis on different syllables. The correct Greek one is mel-po-ME-nee, though. That's the way I like it best as well.

Ditto thisAnd to clarify for the OP, that is a MEH sound, not MEE.

I always thought it was mel-PAW-meh-nee. That's how I read it in my head. I prefer it that way. I think mel-poh-MEE-nee sounds like a deliberate, joking kind of mispronunciation (like how I say "Therr-moh-Mee-ter" for thermometer, or how someone might jokingly call a Penelope "penn-eh-LOH-pee"). That doesn't mean I'm correct though... I'm really just guessing from my instinctual Greek pronunciations.
