[Opinions] Opinions on Alcyone?
WDYT? I realize it might be a bit much for a child, but with the nickname Alcie does it work? Any mn suggestions? If you had to name a baby girl either Alcyone or Bryony (Briony is completely out of the question), which would you choose?

I prefer Alcyone to Bryony even though I am not fond of the English pronunciation of Alcyone.

I don't like it. I think it sounds TOO mythical to be taken seriously.I would definitely name a child Bryony over Alcyone.

I like Alcyone! It's on my PNL. It's unusual yet lovely. For a nickname, I like Ali or Alcy.If I had to choose, definitely Alcyone. I don't see what's so great about Bryony.

Definitely Alcyone! I love Alcyone, which is why I chose it as my user name. If I were to use this name, I think I would be more inclined to use it as a MN since I'm pretty sure that there would be pronunciation and spelling issues, but someone named Alcyone could always go by Allie or Cy if she got tired of having to correct people repeatedly.

When I first saw this name I thought it was pronounced "alkie-one" alkie as in alcoholic! Horrible! Alcyone is just icky. If it must be used let it be a boy's name. Bryony is much more feminine, though I'm not really a fan of it either (don't like "Bree" names). I guess I'd pick Bryony, then, for the poor little girl.

Hmm …I don't know if you're pronouncing either name right. Alcyone for a boy? al-SIE-a-nee? "SIE" rhymes with "eye." Imagine if it were spelled Alsai-ony or Alsyony. Does that really sound masculine to you?And the "Bry" in Bryony rhymes with "eye" as well, so it's not a "Bree" name.

I almost asked you how to pronounce it, because I wasn't sure, but then I figured I could just look it up. I don't think it sounds masculine, but I do find I do find it difficult to say!

It's okay, but I'd like Halcyon nn Halley more.

Alcyone, nn Alcie, would be great. My grandfather's nn for my grandmother Alice was Alsie, so I'm biased. But Alcie is the perfect way to make Alcyone useable. I love the sound of Alcyone, but I can see where it would intimidate most non-name-nerds.Bryony is nice too. But when you have the chance to use Alcyone (Alcie), I say go for it. :-)

Much prefer Alcyone to Bryony. I could see it working on a child, I'd love to meet a little Alcyone.

I would choose Bryony, I like that spelling better as well because the placement of the "rio" looks a bit strange in Briony. I don't really like Alcyone, probably because I used it as a last name for my Sims, haha. Plus, if read too quickly many will pronounce it as "al-sai-on" (with a soft-S sound rather than more of a soft-C sound)
