[Opinions] Sidney and Nancy?
I REALLY LOVE the names Sidney [boy] and Nancy. My two aunts on my father's side are named Nancy, i just think it's a pretty name, i adore it.Sidney NN Sid, I love it for a boy and always have.I am aware that Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols well duh was called "Sidney" I know it's not his real name, his name was John. BUT
do you think because his NN was Sidney/Sid and his GF was named Nancy. That it would be a bad idea to have siblings named this?I am a fan of Sid Vicious so it really doesn't bother me, but I just wanted opinions.*ETA*:
I'm glad people are honest about the names, I could see about the drug referance or even the murder idea of it, but i am completely offended how people can think it would be incestous! Do you really think two innocent children would have sex because thier names are Sidney and Nancy? or whatever other name out there that just happpend to be the names (or nickname) of a couple? That is a disgusting thought! My two children would NOT have sex just because of thier names, I can't believe people think such things! I'm sure anyone would be offended by that, not just me.

My personal rule is this: If a sibset is also a romantic couple, it's a bad idea. Moreover, if half the couple ended up splattered all over a hotel room, it's really, really a bad choice.I love both Sidney "Sid" and Nancy, too, but using them together is WAY too much for me. It's creepy the way Romeo and Juliet would be as siblings--not only would they sound incestuous, they'd be "doomed" to end up horribly. If you used Nancy as a middle name, it would be a bit better situation.Array
Get into the car
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
See the city's ripped insides
We'll see the bright and hollow sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
The sky was made for us tonight

Eh, I think it sounds like a bad idea, for the couple reason - regardless of their fate. Sorry! It's not just that Sid Vicious was well known, or that they were addicts. It's just because the film Sid & Nancy juxtaposed their names in a permanent meme that's unlikely to die before your kids grow up... so any time the sib names are said together someone's bound to notice and go, woah, like Sid Vicious! It'd detract really badly from the attractiveness and dignity of both names. Sort of like sisters named Thelma and Louise.But.. once your kids were grown up and on their own, it would just about completely cease to matter. And that's most of life. I think when they were growing up, your kids' acquaintances and friends would learn to laugh it off, and your kids would learn to laugh off strangers' reactions, and it'd just be a silly joke for them by the time they're grown. So although I probably wouldn't do it if I were you, I wouldn't really disapprove if you did.- chazda

Yes, I think this would be a bad idea. "Sid and Nancy" as a pair has such a negative connotation. Even if you overlook the cultural movement they were a part of (whether you liked it or not), their names are still very, very connected with indescriminate drug use and murder. And what Array said about using the names of romantic couples as sibsets bears repeating: it sounds incestuous, or at least it will once their peers know the relevance of their name pair.

I love the name Nancy. I didn't make the association with Sid Vicious, so for me it would not be a problem to have Nancy and Sidney as a sib set. I'm not crazy about the way they sound together though- both with the y sound at the end.
