I have read other posters comments about Ella being sweet and little and petit. I have to agree before I knew someone with the name those were my impressions of the name. However now I know someone with the name and it's changed to be completely the opposite. She was huge for her age, very thin hair that never really grew in, was extremely hyper. Really was the opposite of what I thought an Ella would be.

I do not care about popularity, and tend to like classic, popular names. Ella is lovely.I picture a classy, nice Bohemian girl whose parents did not feel the need to try too hard and name her Atalanta.

You know, I was just thinking about this last night. I adore Elly, but again, the Elle- names are supposedly so popular. I don't know any! I think it depends on where you are, really. I don't really imagine looks with a name unless I really know someone or something like that, so I have nothing for you on that.

I don't think it's extremely popular, but it sounds like it could be in a couple of years.
I imagine "Ella" as a rather petite person with shoulder-length medium blonde hair and hazel eyes. She's sweet, open-minded and playful.

I've never met an Ella, so I don't really picture any look in particular. It sounds sweet so I'd imagine a sweet pretty little girl. The name it's self is nrms, but I can understand why others like it. :)

I think it is a little too popular, or at least popular-sounding, what with all the Isabellas and Bellas and Stellas running around too. I'm not a huge fan; I like Ellen and Elleth a lot more, the more gorunded endings make them sound less nicknamey than Ella does.
I imagine an Ella as fair-skinned with medium-brown curly hair and brown or blue eyes, and round cheeks. She's quite outgoing but can be a bit serious too.
