I named my daughter Jenna Valyn and I was told that the name "Jenna" was Arabic and that it meant "little bird".I first heard the name (back in the day...) on the tv show "Dallas" with Priscilla Presley portraying the character "Jenna Wade". That's when I fell in love with that name!

Maybe it has something to do with Gina, the short form of Regina?

hi my name's Jenna, too. So far the most interesting meaning I've found was that the name's Arabic and means Little Bird. Other than that its Welsh meaning white, fair.

Jenna is a form of Jenny, which is a pet form of Jane, which is an female form of John, which is derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan, which means Yahweh, which is the Hebrew name of God in Judiasm, Christianity, and Islam.

Er, it actually goes like thisFirst Derivation:
Jenna -> Jenny -> Jennifer -> Guinevere -> Gwenhwyfar ("fair, smooth"/"white, smooth"Second Derivation:
Jenna -> Jenny -> Jane -> Jehanne -> Johannes -> Ioannes -> Yochanan -> Yehochanan ("Yahweh is gracious")Yahweh may have been based off of an old Semitic word meaning "to be" or "to become".Miranda

Yes, correct. I skipped a few names to keep my post from being utterly boring, but I didn't think of planning it out like you did. *laughs full-heartly*

And how exactly did you get from the Welsh Gwenhwyfar to the Hebrew Yahweh. Jenna has absolutely nothing to do with John whatsoever.And we're not bored by painstaking accuracy here. Matter of fact, we like it.Devon

Jenna to GwenhwyfarJenna -> Jenny -> Jennifer -> Guinevere -> GwenhwyfarJenny today is used as a pet form of Jennifer, hence ultimately deriving from Gwenhwyfar.Jenny used to be a nn of Jane (a feminine form of John, of course), and still is, I suppose. But today's Jennys are much more likely to derive from Jennifer.Though I'm still confused as to why Jessica said John meant "Yahweh", forgetting the "is gracious" part. (No offence Jessica!)Miranda

Each of the names kept saying they were derived from this name and each related to another. I just kept clicking the links. Sorry for all the confusion I've created. ^_^;
