[Opinions] Brigitte
Do you think this name, spelled thus, is too linked to Brigitte Bardot to be used for a baby today? Would having the name of a legendary beauty be too much to live up to?
I guess I'd pronounce it bree-zheet, similar to the French way. But how would most people say it? bri-jit, I suspect.

I always pronounce Brigitte the German way, bree-GEE-tah. I prefer Brigit or Bridget over the French pronunciation of Brigitte, but I think Brigitte is one of those names that she'll always have to pronounce and spell to people. Nothing is wrong with that, and I think the association with Brigitte Bardot would be helpful in pronunciation: "It's Brigitte, like Bardot, not Bridget."

Nah, I don't think it's too tied to Brigitte Bardot. But yes, I do think most people would be inclined to pronounce it like Bridget, so it's a gamble if you really want it pronounced the French way. I do think it's very pretty though.

Not at all, although Bardot would come in handy as a pronunciation and spelling guide. I'd pronounce it in the French way and I think most Brits probably would too, as she's pretty well-known here. I like it better than Bridget, which I've always found a bit harsh.
