What do you think of Freya and Freja? How do you pronounce them? Do you say FRAY-ya?
Do you think it'll get common? Do you know anyone with the name?
Do you think it's risky to name a child after the goddess of beauty? Would people make fun of a plain looking Freya? I know a Freja and a Freya and they're both beautiful.
Would you spell it Freja or Freya? I kind of prefer Freja, do you think that would get mispronounced and misspelled in an English speaking country a lot?

I like Freya. I pronounce it FRAY-a. I think it's picking up in popularity, but I don't think it'll become really popular in the near future in the US. I don't know anyone. I like goddess names, I don't find anything wrong with them. I don't think there's any glaring teasing potential. I'd spell it Freya, just because I'm sure there will be Americans who'd pronounce Freja FRED-ja. Even more so, Freja will get misspelled. I'd get Kaja, Freja, and Ronja mixed up because they rhyme, but I easily get things like that mixed up.

1. I'm one of the few who really doesn't like this name at all. It's one of the few names I have a visceral reaction to. It just makes me cringe every time I say it. :( I would pronounce both FRAY-yah.
2. I believe it's already common some places in Europe, but probably won't become popular here in the States, but just less obscure.

- I love both, but prefer Freja over Freya. And no, I pronounce Freja as FREY-ah and Freya as FREY-ya. Byt that's more the Danish way than any other. If you were in Sweden, it would be different I'm sure.
- Freja is the name of my cousin and here, in Denmark, when she was born 15 years ago, it was quite uncommon. But now, it is becomming more popular and there's more and more in the generations born after my cousin with it. In both spellings, Freja the most since that's more Danish.

I say them both just as Freya looks - "frey-a".
I don't think it's risky a name at all. It's classy yet also unique. I prefer Freya because the use of the j-as-y is not common for my language and I think it makes Fryea look awkward. I think it may get misprounounced as Freja - or atleast give people pause. They might think it's "Free-ha" like the spanish j :) Which is kinda cool, but not Freya-cool.
I went to art school with a Freya. It fit her perfectly. She was tall, redheaded, Icelandic, and an edgy modern dancer. She was also very nice, but so wickedly intelligent and regal-looking that she was rather imposing. A Freya to a T.

I love this name. I prefer the spelling Freya and pronounce it as FRAY-ya. I know one girl called it. I think its becoming more popular but definitely not too over used.

Freyja was my former English teacher's name

I like the spelling Freya. I say it Fray-ya. I don't think it is or will get too common.

I say it more like Fray-uh than Fray-ya. I know one person named Freya although I'm not sure how its spelt - I'm pretty sure I've seen her spell it both Fraya and Frejya.
I slightly prefer Freya, but Freja is also very nice. I don't think it will be commonly mispronounced/misspelt - people will learn very quickly how to spell and say it and I don't believe the godess of beauty thing will be a problem at all. I highly doubt the majority of the population (esp. kids who are most likely to do the teasing) would know that Freya is the goddess of beauty.
All in all its a lovely name :)

I like Freya. I never used to like it but lately I do. I pronounce both the same way. Not sure how popular it is or if it will get popular.
