[Opinions] Naomi or Evangeline?
Which is better? I thought I was set on Evangeline and then I thought I was set on Naomi, and now I can't decide.

NaomiI like Noémi(e) better, but I really don't like Evangeline. Also, Naomi is shorter, has more history, and is unlikely to date.

Naomi - seems more established -

Naomi for sure.Evangeline sounds lovely, but unless you find the evangelism connotation desirable, I'd stay away from it as a FN.

Naomi by far. Evangeline is so overrated.

I can't believe it, but...Evangeline.And I don't dislike Naomi, I'm just starting to come around on Evangeline. Who would've thunk it! I think it started when I heard someone on Wheel of Fortune (or was it Jeopardy?) say her daughter's names were Amanda and Evangeline and I thought that was amazing.

I don't really like any of them, but it depends on the surname.if you have a long or complicated surname, then NaomiIf a short surname, then Evangeline

Evangeline, which is pretty. I've never liked Naomi, which, in spite of being an old Biblical name, has always sounded like a random collection of syllables to me. And I'm always reminded of my husband's reaction, upon my telling him that my parents' cleaning lady was named Naomi. This was "Been to Wyoming, Naomi?" followed by snickering.

Hard to decide but I'll have to go with EvangelineNaomi is also a great name too but I prefer longer names like Evangeline.

EvangelineI think Naomi is boring.

I prefer Evangeline.

NaomiNaomi is a more well-rounded name in my opinion. It ages better, combines better, and doesn't invoke too much "Bible-thumping" connotation like Evangeline can. Evangeline is much more of a mn to me.

also weirdIt's interesting that many people see Evangeline as more "religious" than the name Naomi - I think it's just the opposite. Must be because I think of Uncle Tom's Cabin Evangeline, and therefore associate it with literature, while Naomi, with her Bible story, seems more "religious" to me. Like I could totally imagine a sancitomoniously religious Naomi more than an Evangeline. Funny how the same names can strike people so differently!

I agree that Naomi is a more deeply religious name but Evangeline has such strong ties to the words "evangelist" and "evangelical" that many people make that association and consider it a negative.Naomi's biblical roots appeal to me, but don't seem as outwardly associated as names like Evangeline and Christian.

I like EvangelineFor some reason Naomi has always strick me as a really boring, "safe" name. Noemie is better, more interesting for me. Just personally of course.

Wow, that's so weird.Every time I bring up the name Naomi to a friend (it's one of my all-time favorites), they're always like, "That's such a weird name! I've never heard that on anybody!" Sort of the exact opposite of what you say. :P I'm curious how you came to regard it as boring and safe.

Yeah, it is weird for me too, because it's not like I know piles of people named Naomi either - maybe somewhere in the depths of my childhood I met a really boring Naomi and the association stuck? It's just always seemed like such a lackluster name for me. It is just not pleasing to me at all, can't explain it!

I can't speak for New_Chloe, but I personally know at least four Naomi's. It's a fairly common, boring name to me as well.Naomi has never once left the most popular names in the US list in the 129 years that are listed and has almost always been in the top 300 with a few years of it being in the 400s. It's number 118 on the popularity list in 2008, so it really is quite common. Any name that is this commonly used will be looked at as boring and safe by some people (myself included). That's not necessarily a bad thing though. I like a few boring/safe names as well. :)

Naomi by milesIt's got the Old Testament story behind it, has a unique and exotic feel, isn't getting trendy, and is always a name that makes people turn heads while retaining familiarity.

I'd be more inclined to go with Naomi. Evangeline is a pretty name, but it reminds me of the word "evangelist."
