First, Lord of the Rings. Then, undies, unfortunately.

Cool! U is so under-represented as a first letter for names.Although in this case, I prefer Ondine ("OHN-deen") to Undine.

I'd think of 'undies'!

I like it quite a bit, but can't shake the association with Warhol superstar "Pope Ondine."

I'd immediately think of video games, as there's a series of video games that uses Undine as a recurring spirit. That was my first encounter with the name, so I can't shake the association. It'd be kind of like meeting an Aeris or a Link. (As nerdy as I am, though, I'd be super-excited to meet any of those.)

I would think it was neat if I met someone named Undine. The only thing that keeps Undine off of my list is that it reminds me of the word "undies." For that reason, I prefer Ondine. I remember being pleasantly surprised when I found out that one of my former classmates had Ondine as a middle name.

Undine is just a weird name to me, though I might be able to appreciate it more to hear it said/see it used. Every time I look at it I interpret it as to-not-dine so that is why it seems "weird" to me. I just can't not read it as common English prefix + word meaning to eat. I would probably be excited to meet a woman named Undine, though. It would be interesting to see and it would nice to have a context to look at it in other than the context of my own misreading.

I'd think "what an unusual, but interesting name!" I'd also think of the Undine legend and of the protagonist of Edith Warthon's novel "The Custom of the Country", who has this name.

I'd think "poor lady". This is one of the few names I cannot tolerate... sorry! It reminds me of a genetic disorder "Ondine's curse" which, by the way, is a very creepy name for a disease, and aside from that, the spelling Undine makes me think of underwear.

I would have assumed you would not appreciate it anyway due to the fact that it isn't drippingly Slavic.

WowThat was uncalled for! Have you looked at my PNL? Plenty of non-Slavic names there!
